2008 U.S. Elections

To af CBS' USA-eksperter fra Center of the Study of the Americas - lektor Niels Bjerre-Poulsen og lektor Edward Ashbee - klæder dig her på til at følge godt med i den amerikanske valgkamp.

2008 U.S. Elections

NBC Meet the Press - med Tim Russert
USA's ældste ugeprogram om politik. Lange interviews og rundbordsdiskussioner hver søndag. Fremragende!

CBS News - Face the Nation
Veteranjournalisten Bob Schieffer har hver uge gæster i studiet

Washington Week Podcast/NPR
http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/

"It's All Politics"

KCRW's Left, Right & Center

MSNBC - Hardball with Chris Matthews

And more:

The 2008 presidential election is the most open and fluid for many a year. The outcome is very difficult to predict. But it is also different in other ways. While the nomination process usually runs between January and June, many of the 2008 primaries (which select national convention delegates and determine who will be selected as each party's candidate) will be held on or before February 5th. By then we should know who each party will put forward as its presidential candidate. All the US networks will carry comprehensive coverage on their websites. At the time of writing, CNN seems to be heading the pack in terms of breadth and depth.

Another feature of the 2008 presidential race is that there have been large numbers of televised debates between the candidates (particularly the Democrats). And they haven't followed the usual staid and regulated format. CNN has teamed up with YouTube so to allow viewers not only to ask the questions themselves but present short film footage. There is still an opportunity for anyone to submit a question and film for the November 28th 2007 debate between Republican candidates (such as Mitt Romney or former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani)

The US electoral process is governed by arcane and complex rules. States and state parties run their in different ways. Some restrict the franchise to members of the public who are registered party supporters. Some allow independents to cast a vote in one of the party's contests. Some hold meetings or "caucuses" together with "county conventions" rather than a regular election. The ultimate guide to all these matters (and this may only be one for the most dedicated of observers) is The Green Papers.
